The Chrysler Pacifica vs. The Honda Odyssey: Battle of the Minivans
Finding the ideal vehicle for your family is a tough task, and your decision can impact your family for years to come. Minivans are a great option for all types of families, and there are several popular models in the class. To help our customers make an informed decision on such an important purchase, we've compared one of our favorite minivan models, the Chrysler Pacifica, with its main competitor, the Honda Odyssey.
What makes the Chrysler Pacifica more family-friendly than the Honda Odyssey?
Price
Raising a family is expensive, so you have to find savings any place you can, and the Chrysler Pacifica helps you do just that. It has a starting MSRP of $26,995, which is quite a bit less than the Honda Odyssey's starting MSRP of $29,990. On top of this, the Chrysler Pacifica has a smaller jump in price to the next trim level than the Honda Odyssey, so you don't have to pay as much to get more features.
Features
Speaking of features, the Chrysler Pacifica comes standard with several that cost extra in the Honda Odyssey. Parents will love the confidence that the SafetyTecâ„¢ suite provides. This standard package on every trim level of the Chrysler Pacifica includes:
- Blind Spot Monitoring
- Rear Cross Path Detection
- ParkSense® Rear Park Assist
These features give you a greater understanding of your immediate surroundings, which is the first step in avoiding accidents and keeping your family safe. With the Honda Odyssey you'll have to purchase a pricier trim to find these features, but the Chrysler Pacifica doesn't make you pay extra for protection.
The Chrysler Pacifica also comes with entertainment technology like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for simple connection between your mobile device and the car's audio. The Honda Odyssey comes standard with a 5-inch screen and no such connectivity compatibility. Both models offer rear-seat entertainment features, but while the Chrysler Pacifica has two 10.1-inch screens, the Honda Odyssey has one 10.2-inch screen for all rear-seat passengers. Passengers will have more options and better views with the Chrysler Pacifica's Uconnect® Theater system.
Cabin Design
Another area the Chrysler Pacifica sets itself apart is the design of the interior, which gives passengers more cubic feet of room than the Honda Odyssey. Driver's will enjoy more leg room, so they don't cramp up as easily on long road trips, and the rear rows have more shoulder, head, and hip room than the Honda Odyssey, so there will be less complaining about rubbing elbows. That room is also easier to turn into storage space for sports equipment or other items thanks to the Chrysler Pacifica's Stow 'n Go® fold-flat seats, which can be operated with the push of a button.
Performance and Fuel Efficiency
Both models come with a V6 engine to power these larger vehicles, but the Chrysler Pacifica's has some clear advantages. It has more horsepower than the Honda Odyssey's, and while the torque specs are the same between the two, the Chrysler Pacifica hits peak specs at lower engine speeds. This is especially helpful with towing, which is why the Chrysler Pacifica can tow more weight, but it also provides a better driving feel and faster acceleration.
These engines get similar efficiency specs, but the Chrysler Pacifica offers a hybrid model for greater fuel savings and less emissions. This smart option can drive up to 33 miles only using its electric motor for outstanding efficiency specs of 84MPGe. There is no hybrid model for the Honda Odyssey.
